Eastern Film Studios, Karachi

I remember meeting an Indian-American by the name of Ed Malik who took over Eastern Studio from Mr.Saeed Haroon to re-start it in mid 90's. Does anyone know whatever happened about the re-opening of the studio by Malik? Mr. Haroon was very gracious in proving us with the info and treated us with tea at his office upstairs. Malik was very knowledgeable about films and the studio operation and was upgrading the facilities but then I heard nothing. Wonder what happened to him and the Studio?

I remember very well the efforts by this young man by the name then known as Adeem and sometime Adil who came from Hollywood with an idea to restart the great historical Eatern film studio. I remember meeting him next to Saeed Haroon's office upstair with tremendous energy and faith in starting the eastern studio again. I was very impressed with with this young man with a bit of an attitude but a very positive one. He introduced me to Mr. Saeed Haroon next to his office and we had a great time disucssing how and when the real studio opening will take place. Mr. Haroon invited many of old actors whose careers were launched from this studio to meet Malik for moral support. I was later told that due to some political problem with Mr. Saeed Haroon Malik had to return back to Hollywood to come back when political situation becomes more normal.

I remember meeting Adeem Malik at the Studio. I saw him up on a ladder doing some cleaning of the wall with some workers. He was very enthused and confident to get the old studio back for making Pakistani films. I was interested in working with him but he was not in the mood of discussing any production soon. Mr. Haroon was very cooperative and provided all sorts of help and assistance to Mr. Malik. I revisited the studio again after a year only to find out that Malik was back in Hollywood and the studio fell in worse condition than I saw with Malik. What a shame that such a historical studio is dying. I hope someone could revive this beautifully equipped world class film studio from becoming a loom factory!

My mum told me that my dads step brother Mohamed Saleem worked at the studio possibly either in the 60s or 70s the address he had then was Laboratory department, Eastern film studio LTD. Karachi 16 Pakistan . I have been trying to find him ,if anyone can help i would be very grateful . I have been researching my dads side of the family as i don`t know much about them. I do not know if that was his full name ,that was the name that is written on the back of a photo my mum gave me . I do not know if he is still living, or if he had family in Pakistan

My father C. Mandody worked at Eastern Film Studio as Sound Recordist between 1963 to 1966. Mr. Saeed Haroon was the boss of the show, and very close to my father. Are there any hopes of reviving the studio? Was a great studio and I remember meeting Waheed Murad, Sohail Rana, and others when I was a kid.
